Hiring Contractors for Your Project
June 26th, 2008Finding and then hiring, or more correctly ‘contracting’ with a contractor to complete your project can be challenging for the uninitiated, requires diligence but ultimately can be a fruitful experience when the following recommendations are implemented:
- Start with identifying what you project will include
If you are not sure about all element sof your project and what work you want completed, anticipate several future revisions, ongoing additional work on your part, as well as additional expenses, contract revisions, and longer completion time on the contractors part. If you’re not ready to start the process due to decisions being incomplete, wait until you’re ready. - Ensure you know what licenses and types of insurance your contractor must have in place. These are mandated by State and local government. There are also Federal laws and regulations that all contractors are required to comply with. These include but are not limited to worker safety laws, environmental laws and labor laws. Besides your State or local government, check with your property insurance agent about what insurance policies need to provided and in force, by your contractor.
